Nevil got his hands on some prime California genetics from Sam the Skunkman in '84, specifically Early Girl and a Mexican sativa-derived line called Pollyanna. He worked those lines, inbreeding and selecting for generations until he nailed down a sativa-dominant plant that could actually finish under the miserable, cold autumn skies of northern Europe.

Before Early Pearl came along, growing quality sativa genetics outdoors in places like Holland or the UK was basically a suicide mission; the rot would eat your crop before the trichomes even thought about going cloudy.
