The history of Early Girl is a bit of a trip. While most folks instantly think of Sensi Seeds and their bulletproof outdoor Dutch genetics from the 80s, the old heads remember when Brazilian Seed Company (BSC) had their hands on it. BSC was notorious back in the early 2000s for cataloging raw Brazilian landraces like Manga Rosa, but they also held onto some classic hybrid stock like Early Girl. They used it heavily in their breeding projects, most notably crossing it with the legendary UBC Chemo to create "Early Chemo."

Running BSC’s Early Girl genetics was exactly what you’d expect from a 75/25 indica cross built for speed. The plant grows incredibly sturdy and compact, usually throwing one massive main spear if you leave her untrained. She was bred to beat the autumn rains, reliably finishing in about 55 days or roughly 7 to 8 weeks. Outdoor guerilla growers loved her because she could take a beating from cold nights and damp mornings without immediately succumbing to powdery mildew. The buds are thick, pale, and caked in frost.

Smoking it brings a real nostalgic, mellow high. It’s not the kind of modern weed that’s going to put you in a coma; it’s a functional, euphoric body buzz with a smooth, earthy, and slightly hash-like flavor. The real tragedy is that BSC started fading out around 2010. Getting beans from them back in the day was notoriously hit-or-miss with shipping delays, and now the company is totally defunct. If you manage to find any old BSC stock sitting in a breeder’s vault, you’re holding onto a very weird, very cool piece of cannabis history.

Growing Early Girl: what to expect

As an indica-leaning plant, expect a modest stretch after the flip (roughly 50–100%) and dense bud structure — which makes late-flower humidity discipline the main risk: keep RH in the 40s once buds fatten to stay ahead of mold. Growers familiar with Early Girl will recognize much of its behavior. Whatever the listing says, the cut in YOUR tent is the ground truth: log feedings, readings, and photos, and let the trends — not the label — drive decisions.
