SoCal Master Kush by Clone Only Strains

If you were kicking around the Southern California medical scene in the late 90s, you definitely crossed paths with the SoCal Master Kush. Unlike the European Master Kush—which was just a Hindu Kush crossed with Skunk #1—the SoCal cut is an entirely different beast with zero Skunk heritage. The true story came straight from the guy who popped the seeds back in 1998 from a batch of beans sourced in Arizona from Bubba lines. He found a "Green" pheno that reeked of coffee and chocolate, and a "Purple" cut that pushed sweet grape gas. By 1999, these cuts were handed out to local collectives and officially dubbed Master Kush and Hollywood PK.
The SoCal Master Kush cut is a pure, unadulterated indica that grows exactly how you'd expect: short, stout, with wide fan leaves and golf-ball nugs that get completely smothered in frost. The terpene profile is legendary. It doesn't have the typical pine or lemon of a traditional OG; instead, it dumps massive amounts of earthy, hash-like aromas mixed with dark roasted coffee and incense. Old heads on the forums still argue whether this exact cut was the actual mother of Bubba Kush, with a lot of heavy hitters believing Bubba was just an S1 of this exact SoCal clone.
For over a decade, this was a strictly clone-only treasure kept alive by the crew at SoCal Rx Clones and passed around tightly knit circles. It was the ultimate nighttime medicine, dropping a heavy, narcotic blanket over your body that would melt away pain and put you to sleep in thirty minutes flat. These days, breeders like 808 Genetics have worked with the original Green cut to finally get it into seed form, but anyone who smoked the original clone back in the early 2000s will tell you it was some of the most narcotic, resin-heavy smoke to ever come out of California.

Growing SoCal Master Kush: what to expect
As an indica-leaning plant, expect a modest stretch after the flip (roughly 50–100%) and dense bud structure — which makes late-flower humidity discipline the main risk: keep RH in the 40s once buds fatten to stay ahead of mold. Growers familiar with Masterkush will recognize much of its behavior. Whatever the listing says, the cut in YOUR tent is the ground truth: log feedings, readings, and photos, and let the trends — not the label — drive decisions.
