Any old-head from the Pacific Northwest or BC will get a massive wave of nostalgia just hearing the name Shishkeberry. Popping off in 1996 thanks to Breeder Steve and the crew at Spice of Life, this line-bred Afghani crossed with DJ Short’s legendary Blueberry completely took over the hash-making scene. Back then, Breeder Steve was working closely with DJ Short, selecting for insane resin production and heavy yields. The project threw two main profiles that guys went crazy for—the Red and the Yellow phenos. The Red eventually got crossed back to Blueberry to create Shishkeberry #3, which became immortalized in clone-only form as the infamous 'Kish' cut.

In the garden, Shishkeberry is an absolute tank of an indica. It stays stout, finishes fast, and stacks these ridiculous golf ball-sized nugs that get so heavy they practically snap the branches if you don't stake them up. The resin coverage is just out of this world, which is exactly why it became the premier BC hash plant of its era. As she fades out late in flower, you'll see those deep forest greens start bleeding into beautiful shades of dark purple and lavender. It was one of those rare plants that checked every single box for commercial guys and headies alike—massive yields, short flowering time, and a bag appeal that was totally unmatched in the late 90s.

When you crack a jar of authentic Kish, you're immediately hit with this incredibly distinct 'Afghani twang'—a funky, earthy, forest-floor aroma perfectly balanced by a blast of sweet blackberry and raspberry jam. The smoke is incredibly thick and expansive in the lungs. It brings on a completely narcotic, heavy-blanket body stone that makes your limbs feel like they weigh a hundred pounds. This isn't daytime weed; it’s a sleep-inducing, muscle-melting powerhouse that will put down even the highest-tolerance smokers. Breeder Steve really cemented his legacy with this one, and despite a million knock-offs trying to steal the name over the decades, nothing beats the authentic Spice of Life cuts.

Growing Shishkeberry: what to expect

As an indica-leaning plant, expect a modest stretch after the flip (roughly 50–100%) and dense bud structure — which makes late-flower humidity discipline the main risk: keep RH in the 40s once buds fatten to stay ahead of mold. Growers familiar with Afghanistan Indica will recognize much of its behavior. Whatever the listing says, the cut in YOUR tent is the ground truth: log feedings, readings, and photos, and let the trends — not the label — drive decisions.

Shishkeberry FAQ

How long does Shishkeberry take to flower?

Shishkeberry typically flowers in around 60 days after switching to a 12/12 light schedule. Individual phenotypes vary, so judge harvest readiness by trichome color, not the calendar.

Is Shishkeberry an indica or a sativa?

Shishkeberry is listed as indica.

What are the parents of Shishkeberry?

Shishkeberry was bred from Afghanistan Indica by Spice of Life.

What environment does Shishkeberry like?

Standard cannabis bands work well: VPD 0.8–1.1 kPa in veg and 1.0–1.4 kPa in flower, with humidity stepping down from 65–75% as a seedling to 40–50% in late flower. See the stage-by-stage table on this page.
