They took a Lowrider #1 and crossed it with one of their proprietary mothers, Dinafem #1, to stabilize the line and actually put some meat on the bones. This was the first time a lot of indoor and outdoor growers realized that ruderalis genetics could actually produce something worth smoking.
Growing Roadrunner was stupid easy, which is why it became a massive hit for beginners and guerrilla growers. You could run it on a 20/4 light cycle and chop it in 60 to 70 days from seed. Period. It didn't care about light leaks, and as long as you gave it a decent 10-liter pot so the taproot didn't bottom out too early, it would reward you with a respectable stash. The buds were surprisingly dense for an early auto, kicking out spicy, woody, and citrus-heavy terps that were a massive step up from the hay-smelling ruderalis crosses of the past.
Dinafem eventually phased it out for Roadrunner #2, where they crossed it with a Diesel Ryder to bump up the resin production and sweeten the flavor, but the original holds a special place in history. It paved the way for the massive, high-yielding autoflowers we see today.
