When MzJill and Subcool were running TGA Genetics back in the mid-2000s, they dropped Jillybean and completely shifted what people thought a sativa could taste like. Named in honor of MzJill herself, this strain was born from crossing a prized female Orange Velvet cut (affectionately known as 'Melvin' by the old heads) with their workhorse Space Queen male. It instantly became a flagship for TGA, blowing minds on the Overgrow forums, snagging a spot on High Times’ Top Ten Strains of 2007, and eventually winning Best Sativa in 2014. After the tragic fire of 2017 and the eventual split of TGA, MzJill took the reins to keep this legend alive, and you can still find it today through MzJill Genetics, mostly as open-pollinated F2s.
For a strain that delivers such a soaring, upbeat high, Jillybean actually grows a lot like an indica. It’s a 60/40 sativa-dominant hybrid, but the plants stay surprisingly short, stocky, and heavily branched. This makes it an absolute dream for indoor growers running Sea of Green (SOG) or ScrOG setups. The yield is consistently medium-to-heavy, and it’s notoriously easy to trim. As it ripens, the plants put on a crazy display of colors, fading into vibrant shades of gold, burgundy, and deep purple, completely covered in a thick layer of frost and bright orange pistils.
