This mostly Sativa landrace strain traces its roots all the way back to the highland Drakensberg mountains of South Africa's Ciskei region, growing wild at altitudes up to 2000 meters. The genetics were originally snagged in the 1990s by the now-defunct Swiss seed bank Herbaria. Years later, the guys at Tropical Seeds managed to get their hands on a tiny, ancient batch of those seeds. They literally had to pop them using gibberellic acid just to coax them back to life. From there, they spent five painstaking generations inbreeding and stabilizing the line, knocking out any hermaphroditic traits while locking down the insane vigor of the original African stock.
One of the wildest things about Ciskei is how well it behaves in the grow room. Most equatorial-leaning Sativas will grow straight into your lights and take four months to finish, but Ciskei is completely different. It grows with a sturdy, symmetrical, and unusually compact structure that makes it incredibly easy to manage indoors. Even better, it races through flowering in just 55 to 65 days. Growers are consistently blown away by the yield, too. It stacks up dense, chunky buds with an incredibly high calyx-to-leaf ratio, meaning trim jail is practically nonexistent.
