If you ever kicked back in the Dampkring coffeeshop in Amsterdam during the early 2000s, you definitely crossed paths with Buddha's Sister. Bred by the legendary Soma, this strain actually started out under the wildly boring name 'Soma Skunk V+.' Realizing he had a heavyweight on his hands, Soma rebranded it as a nod to its sibling strain, Reclining Buddha, and the rest is history. It ended up taking 2nd place in the Indica category at the 2002 High Times Cannabis Cup and quickly became one of the most requested jars in the city. The lineage is a killer three-way mix of Reclining Buddha, an old-school Afghani, and a Hawaiian sativa, which gives it a really unique structure and high.

In the grow room, Buddha's Sister doesn't act like your typical short, squat indica. She likes to stretch out, growing tall and lanky with a ton of side branching, which means she performs way better when you let her bush out rather than cramming her into a Sea of Green. The bud structure throws a lot of people off because the flowers stay a bit loose and fluffy instead of rock-hard. But that’s actually a massive advantage—that loose structure gives her insane mold resistance. More importantly, this plant is an absolute resin factory. The trichomes are greasy and slippery, and by the time you're done trimming, your scissors will be locked up and you'll have rolled a massive ball of cherry-scented finger hash.

The flavor profile on this cut is outstanding. It totally bypasses the typical earthy or skunky indica notes and hits you with a sharp, tart cherry candy blast that lingers on the palate. Despite being heavily indica-dominant, the high isn't just a mindless sedative. The Hawaiian genetics poke through to deliver a really creative, cerebral buzz that cuts through the heavy body relaxation. It’s fantastic for melting away pain or stress without completely shutting your brain off. Soma always swore by growing her in fully organic living soil to pull out those intense cherry terps, and any old-school grower will tell you he was absolutely right.

Growing Buddhas Sister: what to expect

As an indica-leaning plant, expect a modest stretch after the flip (roughly 50–100%) and dense bud structure — which makes late-flower humidity discipline the main risk: keep RH in the 40s once buds fatten to stay ahead of mold. Growers familiar with Reclining Buddha or Afghani Hawaiian will recognize much of its behavior. Whatever the listing says, the cut in YOUR tent is the ground truth: log feedings, readings, and photos, and let the trends — not the label — drive decisions.
