You can't talk about the golden era of West Coast breeding without paying serious respect to the late, great Subcool and his masterpiece, Chernobyl. Back in the late 2000s, Subcool was on a mission to find a superior Trainwreck cut that didn't throw hermie bananas every time you looked at it funny. He found it in a specific mother plant called Bloodwreck, discovered by a grower named Smokescreen. Subcool took that stable, incredibly potent Bloodwreck and hit it with his legendary Jack the Ripper (JTR) male. The resulting three-way hybrid completely blew the doors off the industry.
Chernobyl quickly earned a reputation for having one of the most unique and aggressive terpene profiles in the game. Real deal growers hunting through TGA packs were specifically looking for the famous "lime Slurpee" or lime sherbet pheno. The aroma is piercing, cutting straight through the carbon filter with a sharp, sweet citrus funk. Plus, thanks to the JTR dad, the resin production is off the charts. Extractors were washing this stuff and pulling out some of the loudest, most terp-heavy hash the market had seen at the time. It eventually spawned elite cuts like the infamous Slymer, which took the lime terps to an even crazier level.
In the garden, Chernobyl is a vigorous, sativa-dominant beast that loves to stretch. You have to top it early and often to manage the canopy, but the yields are massive if you dial in the feeding. The high is absolutely electric—it’s an uplifting, brain-melting daytime smoke that leaves you grinning like an idiot.
